A1. The Magic 'e'

One of the most difficult aspects of English language learning is the irregular rules for pronunciation. This short lesson plan is about 30 minutes and it introduces beginners. Students are shown a variety of images which they have to identify, for example, a tap. They are then asked to identify the next image, which is the image for the word when you add a magic 'e' - tape. It's that simple.

This short lesson plan is a great way to get your students thinking about how the pronounce new words that they encounter that end with 'e' - make, cake, theme, scene, time, line, phone, zone, flute, cute, etc. The magic 'e' rule will help students recognise when to pronounce a long vowel sound or a short vowel sound, which will give them more confidence when speaking.
