A2. Past simple to past continuous
These exercises can be used to either introduce students to the past continuous, or consolidate existing knowledge. The past continuous is used to talk about actions or activities happening at a particular moment in the past. It is typically used to talk about things that happened at the same time, so we use the time references ‘when’, ‘while’ or ‘during’. This versatile exercise not only helps students with their linguistic fluency and accuracy when forming the past continuous, but also helps to understand how the time references work.
