This lesson is based on a 2016 TED Talk by Trevor Timm, the co-founder of Press Freedom. In his short  presentation he discusses the ethics of journalism and the history of government action against whistleblowers. Students will also practice using language to talk about hypothetical situations as they complete a ‘moral dilemma’ task, which they will later discuss. This is a fascinating topic for both professionals and university students to get their teeth into. Particularly at a time when the role of the news media and its relationship with governments and corporations is such a hot topic.
