Trevor Timm is the co-founder of Freedom of the Press Foundation, and in this revealing TED Talk presentation 2016 he talks about press freedom and the history of government action against whistleblowers. Students will do Cambridge style listening practice, learn new vocabulary and discuss the ethical principles of whistleblowers. Students will also practice using language to talk about hypothetical situations as they complete a ‘moral dilemma’ task, which they will later discuss. This is a fascinating topic for both professionals and university students to get their teeth into. Particularly at a time when the role of the news media and its relationship with governments and corporations is such a hot topic.
